To obtain this certification, candidates must either hold a recognized VHF Radio Operators Certificate or complete the IYT VHF-SRC Marine Communications course. When applying for the Yachtmaster Coastal Sail – Catamaran Certificate of Competency, the school must also request the VHF certificate if necessary. If both certificates are being requested together, please include a note indicating this.
It is essential to understand that IYT Yachtmaster Qualifications are strictly for recreational use and cannot be upgraded to professional certifications. Therefore, all candidates enrolling in a recreational Yachtmaster course with the Maritime School of the West Indies are required to complete an acknowledgment before beginning the course.
Holders of the Yachtmaster Coastal Sail – Catamaran Certificate of Competency are eligible to receive the “International Certificate of Competency” (ICC), provided they meet the criteria established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (Resolution 40). Please note that the ICC Certificate will not specify “catamaran.”
