Service Description

The STCW came into effect to standardize training around the world. The STCW Basic Safety Training Certification is required by all seafarers who are working onboard commercial ships or superyachts. This STCW course is white flag recognized. Included: Training in First Aid and CPR Personal Safety and Social Responsibility Sea Survival Fire Fighting Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness. Course syllabus (summary). Personal Survival Module(One and a half days): A full day in a classroom covering subjects such as emergency situations, evacuation, survival craft and rescue boats, personal lifesaving appliances, survival at sea, emergency radio equipment and helicopter assistance. The remainder of the course is spent in a swimming pool performing an actual life raft inflation and inversion and the simulation of other abandon ship procedures. The theory and practical are both followed by an exam. Fire Prevention Module(Two days): Fire Prevention module including shipboard firefighting organization, the elements of fire and explosion, types of ignition, fire and smoke detection, breathing apparatus use and automatic alarm system familiarization. Students will fight and extinguish actual fires using personal equipment, appliances methods and various agents. The module includes seminar and practical instruction taught by licensed and certified firefighting professionals from the Maritime School of the West Indies. It is followed by a written exam. First and Aid CPR(One day): First Aid and CPR course instructed by our medical instructor . Seven hours of theory and practical covering basic First Aid and CPR in marine situations. The course is followed by a written exam. Personal Safety and Social responsibility(one and a half days): This is a one day course which is instructed to STCW 95 Code A – VI/1-4 as revised by the 2010 Manila Amendment. The course covers working relationships on board, health and hygiene, drugs and alcohol, shipboard management structure and responsibilities, emergencies and safe working practices, with enhanced coverage of communications, control of fatigue, teamwork and marine environmental awareness issues. Cancellation Policy

We are so pleased you are deciding to choose MSWI to complete your courses. Our staff are professionals and their time and scheduling, is of the utmost importance to guarantee our quality service. To this end we do strictly adhere to our policies of cancellation. Please read the following carefully before you sign up. We require a 50% down payment to enroll you in a course. We retain 10% in case of cancellations more than a week prior to the course to cover administrative and reservation costs incurred by our school. If you cancel within a week of the course date, there is still a 10% administrative fee, and the balance of money will be allotted to a rescheduled date. WE DO NOT REFUND FOR BOOKINGS MADE WITHIN THREE BUSINESS DAYS OF THE COURSE DATE ALL REFUNDS ON PAYMENTS PAID BY CREDIT CARD WILL BE PAID BACK TO THE CARD, and 10 % for administrative and bank costs involved will be deducted.
