To enroll in the MOY Limited Practical course, candidates must fulfill certain minimum entry requirements. These requirements ensure that individuals have the prerequisite knowledge and experience to benefit fully from the course and succeed in their yachting careers.

The following are the minimum entry requirements:

  1. Marine Communications VHF-SRC Radio Operators Certificate: Candidates must hold or obtain a Marine Communications VHF-SRC Radio Operators certificate. This certification demonstrates their ability to effectively operate radio communication equipment, a vital skill for clear and concise communication in the yachting industry.

  2. STCW 10 Certificates: Candidates must hold or obtain all STCW 10 (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) certificates. These certificates validate that candidates have completed the necessary safety and survival training, fire prevention and firefighting training, first aid training, and personal safety and social responsibilities training. It is crucial to ensure that these certificates are valid and not expired at the time of application.

  3. Documented Evidence of Boating Experience: Candidates must provide documented evidence of their boating experience to demonstrate their practical knowledge and competency. The required experience includes:

  4. A minimum of 50 days on board a yacht at sea as an active crew member on watch. These days should encompass 24 consecutive hours each and exclude periods in harbors or anchorages.

  5. A minimum of 3,000 miles of yacht cruising at sea (power or sail), accumulated through genuine cruises or passages rather than short day trips.

  6. Thirty hours on watch at night underway as an active member of a yacht's crew, demonstrating familiarity with night operations.

  7. A current medical fitness examination and a color blindness eyesight examination, ensure the participant's ability to perform relevant duties on a yacht. These examinations are valid for two years.

It is worth noting that military letters stating service days for sea time may be accepted by IYT, but each case will be reviewed to ensure the candidate has sufficient experience for the desired certificate level.
